50th Anniversary 2011

Celebrating 50 Years of Faithful Service

“Bloom where you are planted, ” they heard, and that it just what they did on October 30, 1961 when 35 Episcopalians organized St. Catherine’s Mission on Holt Road in Marietta. The first service of Holy Communion was celebrated on the first Sunday in December. Now, 50 years later, St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church has grown to around 400 families with vibrant and numerous programming for adults, youth and children.  The physical building has expanded over the years, as has our mission to “Welcome, accept, nurture, and serve all people through the power of the Holy Spirit.”  To celebrate this important anniversary, many special activities have been planned for year, as well opportunities for each ministry team to be highlighted.

The 50th anniversary gala celebration of St. Catherine’s 50th Anniversary will be Friday, November 11. All adult members of the parish are invited, so get your calendars out now and mark that date. This special evening of dining, dancing and fellowship will be held at The Pavilion of East Cobb beginning at 6:30 p.m. “Save the date” cards have been mailed shortly, and a formal invitation will follow.

The year-long 50th anniversary observance, which began with the Kickoff Party on November 6, 2010, continues with activities throughout 2011. The observance will conclude with on Sunday, November 13 with a celebratory worship service. Each month is a focus on a different ministry including special articles in our newsletter and a special project:

November we kicked off with our focus on Pastoral Care Ministry Team and their project, the St. Catherine’s Cookbook was delivered that month. December’s focus was on the Parish Life and Fellowship Ministry Team and their project, the Cat’s Meow® replica of our church. In January  we celebrated the Liturgy and Music Ministry Team which brought Rev. Joseph Morris’ presentation of Mark’s Gospel Live! to our sanctuary. And in February the Adult Christian Nurture committee, part of the Christian Nurture and Development Ministry Team, collected your St. Catherine’s memories and will have the resulting Memories Timeline available after all your input has been gathered.

Our ministry focus for March is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, part of the Christian Nurture and Development Ministry Team. The catechists are bringing us an adult Lenten Renewal program on four Wednesday evenings beginning March 16 – please read about it in the article about the Lenten Renewal Wednesday evening program
