DATES THIS WEEK

TODAY  Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Feb. 28 — 6:00-7:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Invite family & friends to celebrate Mardi Gras in St. Catherine’s style at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Our Youth will cook & serve. No tickets or reservations are needed, suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children. We’ll have pancakes, bacon, king cake, live piano tunes, fun Mardi Gras décor and more. Proceeds benefit the Youth program.

 

This Wednesday, March 1 — Ash Wednesday services — Holy Eucharist + Imposition of Ashes at 7:00 am, 12 noon, and 7:30 pm. Nursery is open for the evening service. This is one of two days the Episcopal Church calls us to fasting and church attendance, please make every effort to attend worship. For information on the closest church to your work or function contact our office at 770-971-2839, OR you may use the diocese’s Church Locator www.episcopalatlanta.org/ChurchDirectory/ to find church locations and call/visit their websites for service times.
No Wednesday Night Live this week, Ash Wednesday, for Youth or Explorers.

 

This Sunday: Atlanta Hunger Walk/Run,  March 5 — You are invited to join the fight against hunger at the former Turner Field in Atlanta with the annual 5K walk and run. To sign up for St. Catherine’s Team or to make a donation in support, go to our team page at http://engage.acfb.org/site/TR/HungerWalkEpiscopalCharitiesFoundation/HungerWalk?team_id=34372&pg=team&fr_id=1793 . Walk/run registration is $5.00 less if you sign up online rather than at the event!

–> RSVP for Lunch and/or Carpool — Light lunch will be provided 11:15 am to 12:00 noon for those going to the event. PLEASE RSVP if you will join us. *** Rice Bowls for Lent begin this week — Pick up a plastic “rice bowl” in the foyer or by the preschool office and use it to collect your spare change throughout Lent to make a difference in the lives of children in need worldwide. *** Lent Reflections and resources begin this week — Beginning tomorrow, Ash Wednesday, a variety of Lenten materials for children, youth and adults will be on our resource table in the foyer. In particular you’ll find “Growing In Love,” this year’s booklet of Lenten reflections written by our own St. Catherine’s members. You may subscribe to receive the daily Reflection of the Day by email — sign up at www.stcatherines.org/reflections/lent.htm . (If you subscribed to our Advent Reflections you will automatically receive the Lent series, no need to sign up again.) The collection will be available on this page of our website throughout the season and posted on our Facebook page.

 

*** Breakfast this Sunday — Our Breakfast Angels offer breakfast for everyone in the Parish Hall at 8:30 am on the first and third Sunday each month. See you there!

*** Weekly Ministry Focus: Episcopal Relief and Development — March 5 is ERD Sunday! ERD is the world-wide relief and development agency and compassionate response to human suffering on behalf of The Episcopal Church. St. Catherine’s supports ERD’s mission through donations as well as education and communications. NEWS & ACTIVITIES COMING SOON

Wednesday programs in Lent —

-> Adult Lenten Speaker Series March 8 & 15: April Love-Fordham “Who Are These Galatians, Anyway?” — Come for a very special two-session Lenten speaker series, 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Author April Love-Fordham, a well-loved speaker at St. Catherine’s, will share work on her new book on Paul’s Letter to the Galatians. (No meals included for these sessions.)

-> Youth and Explorers WNL: (no WNL on March 1) Wednesday Night Live 7-8 pm during Lent for Youth is March 8-29; for Explorers (children) March 22 and 29 only.

-> Lenten Quiet Evening March 22— 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. Join us for time away from our busy-ness with a meditative way to prepare for Holy Week and Easter in the poetry of Mary Oliver. We will enjoy an evening of silence, reflection, and music by parishioners (including cello from our rector). This event is sponsored for everyone by Daughters of the King.

 

*** Parish Work Day / Recycling Day Saturday, March 11 — 9 am to noon. All hands make for a well-kept church! We need you for a Day of Service at St. Catherine’s as we clean up and fix up our grounds and buildings. Projects include reorganizing storage and the Youth House basement, mulching flower beds and a kitchen deep-clean. Coffee and snacks provided to power our volunteers! We will also offer recycling of many items and paper shredding, watch for details.

Preschool registration is ongoing — Registration is now in progress every Wednesday and Thursday for the 2017-2018 school year. Tours available every Wednesday and Thursday, 10 am -12 pm, no appointment needed. As always, we appreciate you referring friends and neighbors to our quality program for ages 1 through 4 (Pre-K).
