Rector Search

News release May 7, 2017 — Announcement of Rector-Designate

After eighteen months of hard work, countless hours of discussion, powerful prayer, and discernment, God has led us to an outstanding new Rector. We take great pride in the work we’ve done, and with incredible excitement about our Rector-Designate. We feel confident that our new Rector will bring a new energy to St. Catherine’s and move us in a direction where we have yet to go.

We are excited to announce The Reverend Sarah Fisher as our Rector-Designate. Mother Sarah is a spiritually-grounded and gracious soul. A native of Athens, GA, and a graduate of Agnes Scott College and theGeneralTheological Seminary in NYC, Sarah has served churches the Dioceses of Chicago and Atlanta, as well as a sojourn as a chaplain in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. Sarah delights in working with children, youth and adults alike. She has served on the God Squad team for several Happenings. Early in her ordained life, she discovered a curiosity about and interest in stewardship, and now serves as the Vice President of TENS, The Episcopal Network for Stewardship.
She is a well-qualified and accomplished priest with a solid resume. Yet as we’ve gotten to know Sarah, we’ve learned that she is so much more. She is welcoming. She is nurturing. She is accepting. She serves all.

Sarah comes to us from St. Patrick’s church in Dunwoody, where she has had a partnership with the rector to chart a new path and direction for the parish. She has been a driving force behind the unity of staff. St. Pat’s staff would say she’s a good listener, attentive to details, compassionate, clear with expectations, and collaborative. She empowers staff and strives to surround herself with those who know what they are doing.

She has a gift for ministering to the marginalized. Her passion is evident as she talks of her work as a volunteer with Arrendale State Prison in Alto, GA, and with Malachi’s Storehouse, a ministry through St. Pat’s that is dedicated to addressing food insecurity in Metro Atlanta.

Sarah finds ways to engage the laity, involve them in the planning, empower them with the development and growth of the ministry, and then look for the opportunity to let it stand on its own.

Sarah has been married to Mandy, also a priest, for five years and they currently live in Decatur.

She has gently pushed us out of our comfort zone, and she has been there helping us while we’ve talked through it. She has laughed with us, leaned on us, prayed with us, and listened to us. She has taught us, and learned from us. Her actions are filled with grace. Herwords are moving. She has been a pleasure to get to know.

We have fallen in love with Sarah, and are thrilled to welcome her to St. Catherine’s with open arms. We are excited for you to meet her, too.

Your Nominating Committee

Dear Parishioners:

Your vestry is excited to invite and call The Rev. Sarah K. Fisher to join us in Ministry here at St. Catherine’s, beginning Sunday, June 11th, 2017.  The Bishop has approved and endorsed our call. Sarah will hit the ground running and wants to learn about us, each of us, as we share our stories and our journey.  Our 55 years of history — blooming where we’re planted and growing to be this vibrant parish here in East Cobb — has been the result of the work of many people and much prayer.  We’ll need to reach out to each other and support our staff as we grow into this new ministry.  Blessings continue to be poured out upon us, thanks be to God!
